Agartala: A joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura resulted in the arrest of 11 Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian tout at two separate locations.
Late Thursday night, the GRP apprehended eight Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor boy, at Agartala Railway Station in Tripura.
Officer-in-Charge of GRP said that they acted on a tip-off regarding the presence of Bangladeshi nationals at the station.
“Based on the inputs, we alerted our staff at the railway stations and identified several suspicious individuals. Upon detention and preliminary interrogation, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally entered Tripura,” Das stated.
The detained individuals were reportedly en route to various destinations across India in search of work.
“We are currently interrogating them. They claimed ignorance about the specific location from which they entered India. We will produce them before the court to seek police remand for further investigation,” Das added.
The detained individuals were identified as Ibrahim Hossain (24) from Kalaroa District, Safikul Islam (32) from Satkhira District, Musamed Salina Begam (22) along with her son Samim Reze (5), Md. Shimul Hossain (28), Nur Nahar Juma (23), Taslima Kanum (24), and Meenu Khatun (19).
Meanwhile, the BSF reported that on July 11, three more Bangladeshi nationals were detained at Sabroom Railway Station in the South District of Tripura.
During preliminary interrogation, they revealed the involvement of an Indian tout named Thaikai Mog (26), who was subsequently arrested in Sabroom, Tripura.
