Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans have apprehended a person for supplying drugs to a person at a Covid care centre in Panisagar in North Tripura district.

The accused Shibu Debbarma reportedly came to the Covid care centre on Thursday the pretext of giving a mobile charger to his friend Dipankar Roy, who was admitted at the centre.

Debbarma is a resident of Ambasa Magazine Para in Dhalai district.

TSR jawans deployed in the centre got suspicious of his movements and apprehended him.

They recovered seven pouches of brown sugar hidden in the packet carrying the mobile charger.

Receiving the information, the Panisagar police rushed to the spot and detained Shibu along with the drugs.

A case was registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Meanwhile, the Tripura government has set Covid care centres in all districts of the state on a temporary basis to isolate and treat people testing positive for Covid-19.

Accordingly, such centres have been set up at the indoor stadium of Panisagar, RCPE Complex and Panisagar Sports School in North district.

There have been allegations in the past of illegal drugs entering two Covid care centers in Panisagar through the hands of the employees engaged there.

As per Covid-19 protocols, people are not allowed to roam in and around such centres to curb the spread of the virus.
