Tripura is witnessing a rush of tourists – both domestic and foreign to the state’s tourism destinations, revealed official sources.

According to official sources, inflow of tourists has been increasing for the past three consecutive years and there are indications that the ensuing peak season will also witness record breaking arrival of tourists.

A total of 3.99 lakh tourists, both domestic and foreign had visited the state during the financial year of 2015-16.

It had increased to 4.19 lakh in the year 2016-17 and 4.83 lakh in the year 2017-18.

What is more significant is the arrival of foreign tourists that has increased over the last three years.

A total of 35,619 foreign tourists have visited the State during 2015-16 and the state has registered as many as 80,094 tourists during the financial year of 2017-18.

The facts and figures were highlighted during a review meeting chaired by State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb with officials of Tripura Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) in Agartala recently.

The review meeting also discussed at length on how to tap the tourism potential of the State and generate employment opportunities of the local youth.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism has already released huge money under Swadesh Darshan programme, a flagship programme of the Central Government to promote tourism.
