Guwahati: A memorandum of settlement will be signed between the Union government, Tripura government, and representatives of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in New Delhi on Wednesday (September 4, 2024).

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Tripura government will also be present during signing of the memorandum of settlement, the MHA said in a press statement on Tuesday (September 3, 2024).

The MHA has been working tirelessly to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed Northeast, free from extremism, violence and conflict. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the government has signed 12 important agreements to bring peace and prosperity in the region, it added.

Of these 12 agreements, three relates to Tripura. Due to the signing of several agreements by the Narendra Modi-led government, around 10,000 people have given up arms and joined the mainstream, the MHA statement further said.

The NLFT was formed on March 12, 1989 with an objective to secede from India and establish an independent Tripuri state through armed struggle.

The outfit was outlawed in April 1997 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The ATTF was founded on July 11, 1990 by a group of former Tripura National Volunteer members.

The group is said to have been formed as the armed wing of the NLFT but split and later formed its own organisation.
