As the programme of immersion of ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee took place in eight rivers of eight districts of Tripura was organized, a maha yagna (holy pyres) was held in Amtali on the outskirts of capital city of Agartala, to pray for the departing soul of former Prime Minister and for the betterment of society.

Hindu saints from the various parts of the region took part in the maha yagna where they recited Vedic verses and poured ghee and offering into the divine fire which is believed to reach God instantly.

The state Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also participated and performed the rituals. Deb praised the deceased Prime Minister Vajpayee as a statesman whose path of development his government shall follow.

The Chief Minister added that as the ashes of the deceased leader were immersed in rivers of the State on Sunday, traditional maha yagna which is part of Indian cultural heritage as it helps to clean the environment.

The Chief Minister also thanked MLA Ram Prashad Paul, organizers of the maha yagna for arranging such a ritual which has a very strong impact on the life to negate the effect of negative forces and thus shall help in developing the State.

Among many others, Prof Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurka, Vice Chancellor of Tripura University also took part in the maha yagna along hundreds of locals.
