The CPI-M staged demonstration in Agartala on Friday and demanded immediate roll-back of the decision for hike of sales tax on fuel for people’s interest.

A rally was taken out from Paradise Choumohani where hundreds of CPI-M workers took part denouncing the Budget.

The protest rally passed various thoroughfares of Agartala on Friday afternoon.

Later, addressing the gathering, former minister Manik Dey said that at a time when the country is suffering from high price rise of petrol and diesel, the State Government, instead of decreasing the price of fuel, has increased the cess on petrol and diesel along with cess hike of natural gas (PNG/CNG).

Dey claimed that the first budget of BJP-IPFT coalition government totally failed to give ‘respect’ to the people of the State.

Terming the budget as anti-people, Dey said that before the Assembly elections, BJP had promised the people of Tripura to hike different social allowances and hike the wages of MGNREGA at Rs 340, but they did not provide sufficient allocation of funds to hike the allowances and wages.

Addressing the gathering former Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar slammed the new employment policy of the State Government and claimed it would deprive the poor classes of the society and they are depriving the poor people of the State by withdrawing subsidy of ration prices.
