The Agartala city police on Sunday busted a major racket of heroin smuggling in the state of Tripura.

The police made a successful seizure of large quantity of banned drug and arrested two drug peddlers including a kingpin of heroin smuggling, reports tripurainfo.com.

The report quoting police sources stated that based on the inputs of previously arrested drug smugglers, the city police were on the lookout of suspected kingpins of the heroin and brown sugar smuggling racket, who were running a major racket in and around the city.

Finally, a joint team of police personnel led by SDPO (Sadar) Suman Majumder and SDPO (NCC) Dhruba Nath along with officer-in-charge (OC) of West Agartala police station Subrata Chakraborty on Sunday morning conducted a raid at Bhati-Abhoynagar area near Albert Club under NCC police station and arrested one kingpin of drug smuggling, Nihar Ranjan Roy (34), who was popularly known as ‘Powder Raju’ in the inner-circle of drug smuggling.

During the raid police seized few hundred grams of heroin from his possession.

Later, based on the confessional statement of the arrested kingpin, police arrested another peddler and his associate from Krishnagar area of the city and recovered sizeable quantity of heroin and Rs 1.39 lakh in cash.

Police said that total seizure is 800 grams heroin, which were packed in 470 vials for easy sale in open market, which has international market value of Rs 25 lakh.

The arrested drug smugglers were produced before a holiday court in Agartala under NDPS Act and court sent both of them for one day jail custody.
