Kushal Kumar Saikia, Additional Chief Engineer, Western Zone, Assam, has been ordered to probe into the allegations of poor quality work in the construction of some roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Assam.

The order has been issued as per news aired on some news channels of the State.

The order stated, “The construction of road from BM Road to HP Bazar (PMGSY Package No AS07-185 has been allotted M/S D.K. Construction; construction of road from NH 37 to Naratali (PMGSY Package No. AS-07-l69) allotted to D Kachari; construction of road from NH 37 to Chotomatia (PMGSY Package No. AS-07-243) allotted to D Kachari; construction of road from D.G. Road Ambari pahar (PMGSY Package No. AS-07-295) allotted to Kamal Medhi.”

In the order it was mentioned that airing of news regarding poor quality of the works of the roads in different TV channels lowered down the image of Public Works Road Department in the public’s eye.

So, Kushal Kumar Saikia, Additional Chief Engineer, Western Zone, Assam, was asked to “conduct an enquiry into the matter”. Saikia was also asked to submit a report within 10 days positively from the date of issue of the order for submission to the government for further necessary action against the defaulting officers/contractors from the government level.

Through the order, Saikia was asked to treat the “matter” as ‘most urgent”.
