Acting on inputs given by the Intelligence branch of the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed at Gokulnagar in Tripura, troops of 74 Bn BSF along with police personnel of Kalamchera Police Station seized 688 kgs of dry ganja worth Rs 33.76 lakhs from Adampur Village under Kalamchera Police Station in Sepahijala district of Tripura on Tuesday. The dry ganja was kept hidden in plastic drums under mud, a BSF communiqué stated.

Earlier, on specific information given by the DC (G) Gokulnagar, a joint operation was planned and carried out by KC Poonia, DC (G) Gokulnagar and troops of 74 Bn BSF along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sonamura and his men in the house of one Rahim Miah of Adampur Village.

Rahim had stored huge amount of dry ganja in his house “illegally” for further smuggling to Bangladesh from India. The police have also registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 at Kalamchera Police Station against Rahim.

It may be mentioned that due to specific and concrete Intelligence inputs being provided by the Intelligence branch of BSF, several contraband items like ganja, phensedyl, liquor, yaba tablets etc., are being seized almost on an everyday basis in Tripura. The BSF is also pulling out all stops to curb smuggling activities by educating the border population in Tripura (read on not to indulge in smuggling activities), the communiqué concluded.
