The 125-year-old Meghalaya Assembly is finally going to have a new building with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma making an announcement that timeline has been finalised for the new Assembly building.
Uploading a few images of a meeting of the high-powered committee, headed by Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy, Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma on his Twitter handle stated on Thursday: “Timeline finalised for construction of new assembly building at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong.”

The new Meghalaya State Assembly building will be constructed at Mawdiangdiang in Shillong.
As per media reports, the new building is expected to be completed within three years.
The timeline for the construction of the new Assembly building was finalised after the meeting of a high-powered committee headed by Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy in Shillong on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that the construction of the new Meghalaya Assembly building had faced several roadblocks in the past due to various reasons.
Media reports recently quoted Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy as announcing that the new Assembly building would come up at Mawdiaing (New Shillong township) in three years.
He also told a section of media that the process of completing the tender process was on.
Roy also reportedly stated there are no more hurdles to construct the Assembly building and “everything is going fine and smooth”.
After the Assembly building was turned into ashes on January 9, 2001, the Assembly proceedings have been carried out in makeshift government complexes like the State Central Library and the State Auditorium.
The Speaker further stated that the the officers of the State Public Works Department would go ahead with the examination of the bids made by the companies for construction of the new state-of-the-art building of the Assembly.
