At least one person died and a dozen were injured besides loss of a number of domestic animals and plantations when thunderstorm hit several parts of Tripura on Sunday night.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb along with a team of officials from the departments concerned visited the affected areas in Khowai district and declared ex gratia amount of Rs 6 lakh for the deceased family and Rs 95,000 for those who lost their houses.

Chief Minister Deb visited the affected areas in Khowai district affected by severe thunder storm on Sunday night. Many were houses damaged.

On his Twitter handle, deb stated, “Declared immediate assistance of Rs 6 lakh to the family of the deceased. Directed DM, Khowai to ensure financial assistance to all affected families.”

Chief Minister Deb stated, “Thunderstorm has badly affected remote tribal village – Paschim Belchera of Chatnital, Khowai district.”

Stating that apart from death of one person, 11 people had received injuries in the thunderstorm, the CM tweeted, “There has been a death, 11 injuries, some cattle dead, more than 70 houses severely damaged. Roads being cleared up, electricity, water supply being restored situation becoming normal.”

Stating that following the massive impact of the thunderstorm in various places of the State, the District Magistrates concerned have been instructed to open relief camps, Deb tweeted, “There has been heavy damage due thunderstorm at various places of Tripura. All the DMs directed to open relief camps for affected families & to provide food, water, free health check-up. Also immediate assistance up to 1 lakh per damaged house, Rs 2000 for cloths, is being sanctioned.”
