Agartala: Tripura Police have arrested three individuals for disseminating false messages and engaging in rumour-mongering in Agartala.

In a series of posts on X, Tripura Police stated that the trio were detained for spreading a false message urging all tribal people living in Agartala to leave the city before July 26, 2024.

“Three persons have been arrested in connection with the case registered at West Agartala Police Station for spreading a false message/rumour informing all the tribal people living in Agartala to leave the city before 26/07/2024,” the police reported.

The authorities emphasized that strict legal action would be taken against those involved, including group administrators of WhatsApp groups that promote or support such activities.

“Please refrain from spreading such rumours. Strict legal action will be taken against individuals and specifically against the group admins of WhatsApp groups that support or promote such video clips/messages which can create communal disharmony within the state. The situation is completely normal and peaceful,” the statement added.
