The BSNL has started a survey for putting up 2,000 towers along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh to better the connectivity.

Chief General Manager of the BSNL (Assam Circle) Sandeep Govil said this on Friday in Guwahati and added that the Department of Telecommunication has recently agreed to the long standing demand for setting up of towers along the international border to better the connectivity.

Although there have been mobile towers along the Indo-Bangladesh border, Indo-Bhutan border and Indo-Myanmar border, there was no mobile tower along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh due to different reasons including difficult terrain.

“The Department of Telecommunications have given green signal to the proposal of setting up of 2000 mobile towers along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. The survey works in this regard have already been started,” said Govil.

The move to develop mobile towers along the Indo-China border is likely to help the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and other security personnel who guard the Indo-China border. The security agencies have been demanding to the government for setting up of mobile towers along the International border for better vigil.

It may be mentioned here that there has been several instances of intrusions by Chinese Army in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh which is scarcely populated. Better mobile connectivity will help the security personnel having a better vigil along the areas.
