Vivid Kala Academy (VKA) of Sikkim has announced to celebrate the World Photography Day 2019 with a photography competition-cum-exhibition in collaboration with Press Club of Sikkim and Journalist Union of Sikkim on August 19 next at Gangtok.

The theme for the photography competition is ‘Land, Flora, Fauna and People at the Foothills of Himalayas’ and it is open for all.

This was announced by VKA president, Kiran Rasaily in a press conference in Gangtok on Thursday.

Speaking in the press conference, he mentioned that the organization has been celebrating this day with series of activities on photography since 2012 in the State.

“This year is the 180th year of the invention of the modern photography. So, we have decided to celebrate the World Photography Day in a grand manner this year” he said.

He stated that nowadays everyone has camera and to take photograph was easy but VKA was insisted on making photography an art.

He asserted that the photography was a very important as it captures the moment and tell the story of that moment.

Speaking on the photography exhibition, Rasaily mentioned that the competition was open for all on the theme ‘Land, Flora, Fauna and People at the Foothills of Himalayas’.

Interested photographers need to send their photograph of size 16×20 inches minimum along with soft copy in CD or in mail.

He informed that the best 24 photographs will be shortlisted and will be provided with cash prizes and certificates and rest of the entries will also get certificates.

“All entries will be displayed in an exhibition at Gangtok on the World Photography Day on August 19 and then the exhibition will be taken to schools and other parts of the State for a week,” Rasaily added.

The last date to send the entries is August 10 next.
