When new cases of COVID-19 have been reported from different parts of the country, Sikkim is still free from any case of COVID-19.
A total of 37 samples of suspected COVID-19 cases have sent so for test from the State and all have been reported negative.
Principal secretary K Shrinivasulu and secretary Dr P T Bhutia gave an update on the COVID-19 scenario in the State in a press conference in Gangtok on Saturday.
The principal secretary stated that all 37 samples of suspected COVID-19 cases sent for tests have been reported negative which makes zero case of COVID-19 till date in Sikkim.

He informed that a virus research lab under the provision of Department of Health Research – Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will be set up soon in STNM Hospital complex in Gangtok.
He informed that the State has received a consignment of essential medical commodities on Saturday which would further strengthen the efforts and preparations of the State government against COVID-19.
He said the chief minister, chief secretary and residential commissioner in Delhi have big role to bring this consignment to Sikkim.
The principal secretary appealed the people not to panic but to strictly follow the direction of the government and lockdown in this situation.
He added that the State Government and Health Department has been working its best to keep the State away from this infection.
He added that social distancing was very important to stay away from this infection.
He stated that doctors, nurses and health workers and employees have been working day and night to keep the people of Sikkim safe from this infection.
