The Himalayan State of Sikkim on Thursday registered a record spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. 

Sikkim on Thursday logged 124 fresh COVID-19 cases, which is the highest single-day spike that the State registered thus far. 

Of the fresh 124 COVID-19 cases detected in Sikkim, 107 cases have been reported from the district of East Sikkim. 

On the other hand, the districts of North Sikkim and South Sikkim registered 14 and three positive cases respectively.

With the detection of these fresh 124 cases, Sikkim’s active COVID-19 cases tally now stands at 640. 

These fresh 124 cases were detected after conducting tests of 653 samples. 

Meanwhile, the State’s total coronavirus caseload has risen to 6,970. 

A 53-year-old woman, who had comorbidities, died due to COVID-19.

This death case has taken the COVID-19 death toll in Sikkim up to 137. 

Till date, a total of 89,211 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in Sikkim, informed Sikkim IEC member Sonam Bhutia.
