Over 50 monks in a Sikkim Monastery have tested positive for COVID-19. 

As many as 59 monks at Gonjang Monastery have tested positive for COVID-19. 

Following the detection of the COVID-19 cases in the Gonjang Monastery, it has been turned into a containment zone. 

Gongjang Monastery is located just 8 kilometres from Sikkim Capital – Gangtok.

The monks who tested COVID-19 positive have been reportedly shifted to an isolation centre.  

Meanwhile, COVID-19 situation in Sikkim continues to be grim. 

The Sikkim Government has extended the ongoing lockdown in the State for one more week owing to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
