Sikkim chief minister P S Tamang expressed his deep sorrow on the sad demise of a West Sikkim resident, Chandra Subba on her way back home from Vadodara in Gujarat.
She was working in Vadodara and was returning home with other stranded Sikkimese from Gujarat in a train.
Secretary Coordination (COVID-19)-cum-state nodal officer for evacuation, Rinzing Chewang Bhutia mentioned that the State Government has evacuated 160 stranded Sikkimese in coordination with Gujarat government in a train from Vadodara on May 15 evening.
He mentioned that late Subba complainted about fever while reaching Katni station in Madhya Pradesh next morning and immediately taken to the district hospital by the authorities along with her sister Bishnu Maya Subba.
“After getting the information, the state authorities and even chief minister’s office immediately contacted them and was in constant touch with her sister. By seeing the serious condition, we contacted MP authorities and taken her immediately to Jabalpur government medical college hospital in an ambulance but she passed away on her way to the hospital,” he informed.
Bhutia informed that her sister was also undergoing treatment in the hospital as a precautionary measure.
He informed that the preliminary reports of the deceased diagnosed as dengue and samples of both sisters were sent for COVID-19 testing and both have been tested negative.
In his Facebook post, the chief minister expressed, “I am extremely sad to know about the untimely demise of Chandra Subba of Dentam, West Sikkim who was working in Vadodara and was on her way back to Sikkim. She was evacuated at Katni station in Madhya Pradesh as she was not in the condition to travel further. She was admitted to Katni district hospital and was referred to Jabalpur Medical College by her attending doctor but unfortunately expired on the way.”
“She was travelling with her younger sister Bishnu Maya and her last rites were conducted under the presence of SDM Jabalpur. I thank the Madhya Pradesh Government for lending their support in the hour of need. My heart goes out to the bereaved family and on behalf of the Government have also announced ex gratia of Rs 2.5 lakh each for her daughter and son,” he posted.
