Sahitya Akademi is organizing the award presentation ceremony of the prestigious Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2018 for the first time in Sikkim.

The award ceremony will be held at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College, Tadong in East Sikkim on Wednesday.

Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters under Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is giving this prestigious award to 23 writers in different languages.

Bhim Pradhan from Sikkim is getting this award this year for his works in children literature. The award function will have eminent Assamese writer Dr Nagen Saikia as the chief guest and will be accompanied by Sahitya Akademi vice-president, Madhav Kaushik among other dignitaries.

Addressing a press conference here, Sahitya Akademi secretary, Dr K Sreenivasarao informed that the Sahitya Akademi is organized every year in different States and Sikkim is organizing it for the first time.

The award carries a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000 each. He mentioned about other awards presented by Sahitya Akademi in different fields every years and other activities of the organisation.

Dr Sreenivasarao informed that Sahitya Akademi is also organising Bal Sahitya Puraskar Awardees Meet and Symposium on the Evolution of Children’s Literature on 15 November here at Janta Bhawan.

He mentioned that award winning authors will speak about their works and experiences during the programme and symposium will have eminent writers from different parts of the country.
