Sikkim Football Association Second Division Sikkim League 2018 was kicked-off here at Paljor Stadium on Monday.

In the contesting first match of the league, Renzong Football Club edged past Kumar Sporting Club by a solitary goal. Ganesh Limboo scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of the first half for Renzong FC.

Sikkim Police will take on Howlers Football Club in the second match of the league on Tuesday.

Five teams are in the fray this year in the second division State league, which includes Sikkim Police, Dzongri Football Club, Howlers Football Club, Renzong FC and Kumar Sporting Club.

It has to be mentioned here that Renzong FC and Kumar Sporting Club were the top two teams of the State C division League last year and promoted to the second division league 2018, while Sikkim Police and Dzongri FC have been relegated to B second from the senior division last year.

SFA vice-president, Dr Sonam T Ethenpa informed that a total of 10 matches would be played in the league in which each team has to play against all other participating teams in the league.

He added that each team would get 3 points for win and 1 point for draw and the team with the highest point on the end of the league will be declared champion. He mentioned that top two teams of the league would be promoted to the senior division. The champion will receive the cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with trophies.

Ethenpa informed that the premier division State league would be starting just after the ending of the second division to finish before the Independence Day Football Tournament. The premier division league will have the participation of eight teams.
