Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has launched the ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018’ during the state-level Sammelan for Rural and Urban Local Bodies held at Manan Kendra in Gangtok on Monday.

‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen- 2018’ is a pan-India survey initiated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India to develop ranking of the 680 districts based on their rural sanitation status.

The survey would be based on a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative sanitation parameters including data from the SBM-G IMIS, district-level surveys of public places like schools, anganwadis, PHCs, haat bazaars, panchayat and citizen’s perception of Swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the programme.

An independent agency has been hired by the Ministry which will visit the villages to undertake the survey of public places and obtain citizens’ feedback.

As part of the Survekshan, states and districts will be ranked for their sanitation and cleanliness status.

The survey will be conducted from August 1 to 31 and top performing states and districts will be awarded nationally on October 2 later this year.

On the occasion, RMDD Minister, SB Subedi called upon all ADCs (Development), BDOs and PRI members to put all their efforts to ensure that all the districts of Sikkim perform to the best in the survey.
