In a setback to ruling BJP in Assam, senior party leader from Dima Hasao, Nirmal Nunisa on Friday submitted his resignation from the party besides quitting as Director of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Questioning Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s silence on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Nunisa said certain activities undertaken by the party have highly outraged him.

“Despite the indigenous people of the State strongly opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Chief Minister has not uttered a single word in this regard. The Chief Minister himself belongs to a tribal community, but he has failed to take any major steps for the development of the areas inhabited by tribal people,” Nunisa mentioned in the resignation letter.

Nunisa has sent his resignation to the party’s State president Ranjit Dass.

He further said due to wrong economic policies of the government, the common people in the country have faced inexplicable miseries.

Nunisa, who worked as an executive engineer in state public works department (PWD), joined the saffron party on January 27, 2016.
