With the Lok Sabha polls nearing, the top officials of the police and the Army on Wednesday reviewed the security scenario at least in three States of the Northeast and analysed the threat perceptions, if any.

Kohima-based defence PRO, Col C Konwer said this on Wednesday and added that Satyendra Garg, joint secretary, North East (MHA), Maj Gen Rajendra Sachdev, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dinjan headquarters of the Army, Spear Corps Commander, Lt Gen Rajeev Sirohi, Harmeet Singh, ADGP (Security), Assam and Sagar Preet Hooda, IGP (Law & Order) of Arunachal Pradesh participated in the meeting.

“The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the regions of Upper Assam, South Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland. The forum also discussed the ongoing preparations to ensure incident-free conduct of upcoming parliament elections,” Konwer said.

“During the meeting, officials from all the states analysed the possible security sensitivities and measures to enhance synergy between security forces operating in the region,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that the proposal to form the Operations Group took shape on November 12 last year during a high-level security review meeting at Dinjan chaired by Reena Mitra, special secretary, MHA (Internal Security).

Since then, the Operations Group has held four meetings in Dinjan which has enhanced the cohesion amongst all stake holders in the three States.
