Opposing the Centre’s long-term multiple visas to Bangladeshi Muslims, two sitting MLAs from Assam on Monday demanded New Delhi’s intervention in bringing back Mousumi Das, who has allegedly been lured by a Bangladeshi national and got married.
Patharkandi Krishnendu Paul and Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev jointly submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh and registered their protest.
In their memorandum, the duo demanded to bring back Mousumi Das to India as early as possible since her parents have lodged a complaint with the Karimganj Police Station. “This will boost the morale of the parents and can be set as an example for the future,” the MLAs in the memorandum stated.
“…long term multiple visa to Bangladeshi Muslims for tourism and business is not given since it has been proved that such people are working against our national interest and threatening our culture,” the MLAs said.
They further suggested that a comprehensive policy and directive be made so that Bangladeshi Muslims, who come for business, tourism and health care, should be for short-term and monitored by the local police.
It may be mentioned that Mousumi Das, who had married a Bangladeshi, was reportedly arrested in Dhaka on Tuesday for entering the country without valid papers, a local TV channel in Assam claimed.
The girl had earlier told the channel that she had married the Bangladeshi national, Jafar Badshah, of her own volition after Assam BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev said it was an alleged case of “love jihad.”
21-year-old Mousumi Das, who is now Fatima Zannat, went missing from her home on March 12 and her parents filed a kidnapping case with Karimganj Police.
