Research helps to learn new thing, do innovations and contribute to the development of the economy of the country, Dr Dhiraj Bora, Vice Chancellor of Assam Science and Technology University, said at SAMANTRANA 2018.

Addressing the second edition of SAMANTRANA, a two-day National Seminar on the theme “Role and importance of research in technical education” on Thursday as chief guest, Dr Bora said, “Research helps us to learn new things, do innovations and contribute to the development of economy of the country. One needs to channelize all the efforts to bring the technologies, put it together and develop the environment. One has to be honest, caring, patient to do research.”

Dr Bora dwelt at length on various types of research and the benefits of research in technical education. He was of the view that knowledge should be at a high level to sustain in this competitive era.

Delivering the key note address, Dr Amarendra Kumar Das, interim director of IIIT Manipur, spoke at length on the role of research for the betterment of humanity. He said research is the creation and expansion of knowledge.

Former vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University Professor Kulendu Pathak said research plays an important role for the betterment of mankind. He said research is to learn the failures in existing system.

Prof. Pathak also enlightened the participants about the threat being posed by the engineering sector in the field of education and suggested to take advantage of knowledge and develop products specially those which are IT based and develop the economy of the country.

Renowned psychiatrist Dr Jayanta Das later delivered Late Bina Chowdhury memorial lecture on ‘Impact of electronic gadgets on the learning ability of students’ and spoke on advantage and disadvantage of gadgets.

President of Srimanta Shankar Academy society Ratul Das delivered the inaugural address of Samantrana 2018.

Convenor of Samantrana 2018 Dr Krishnanga Gohain, HoD, civil engineering, GIMT spoke on the importance of research to upgrade the students and faculties so that it helps in the economic development of the country.

Chairman of the inaugural session Prof. Sushanta Kumar Dutta, Principal GIMT, threw light on the importance of research in technical education.

The Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT) and Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) are jointly organizing the second edition of SAMANTRANA, a two-day National Seminar on the theme “Role and Importance of Research in Technical Education” from January 18, at the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology campus at Hatkhowapara at Azara in Guwahati.

The objective of the seminar is to understand the importance of research in technical education and create a pathway to promote research and innovation in academia, so as to develop a highly skilled human resource pool contributing towards the development of the state and the north eastern region.
