Justice S Hukato Swu was sworn in as an additional judge of Gauhati High Court on Tuesday.

Swu took oath of office and secrecy during a solemn function at the Gauhati High Court complex.

In a notification issued by Rajinder Kashyap, joint secretary to the government of India, said the President appointed Justice Swu along with two others as the additional judges of the Gauhati High Court.

The two others, who have also been appointed as additional judges of the Gauhati High Court, are Soumitra Saikia and Parthivjyoti Saikia, both from Assam.

S Hukato Swu hails from Nagaland.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (I) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (i) Soumitra Saikia, (ii) Parthivjyoti Saikia and (iii) S Hukato Swu, to be Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court, in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices,” said notification said.

S Hukato Swu was among a list of judicial appointments and transfers affected by the Collegium, headed by the then Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi.

An official statement said: “The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 15th October, 2019, after taking into consideration the material on record, has approved the proposal for elevation of the following persons as Judges of the Gauhati High Court.”

Earlier, S Hukato Swu served as the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Mokokchung.
