The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have recovered smuggled goods worth Rs. 1.32 lakh and apprehended one person from a train.
The RPF personnel of NF Railway have been successfully conducting raids in trains and railway premises throughout its jurisdiction to detect and recover contraband items including smuggled goods.
“In a recent incident, RPF of NFR recovered contraband items worth Rs. 1.32 lakh and apprehended one person,” the chief public relations officer of NF Railway, Subhanan Chanda said in a statement.
Chanda informed that alert RPF personnel also rescued a lady passenger falling from a moving train at Katihar railway station on March 23, 2021.

Acting on information regarding carrying of narcotics, on March 17, 2021 RPF team of RPF Post/Jalpaiguri Road under the supervision of ASC/Alipurduar Junction conducted raid in Train No. 05960 Dibrugarh – Howrah Special at Jalpaiguri Road station.
During the raid, the RPF team apprehended one person for illegally carrying contraband goods and recovered 16 packets of cannabis weighing about 33.15 Kg worth Rs. 1.32 lakh, the statement said.
Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered contraband goods was handed over to the officer-in-charge of the GRP at New Maynaguri for further course of action.
On March 23, 2021 while the train No. 05981 Dibrugarh-Danapur Express Special was leaving from Katihar railway station, a lady passenger tried to board the running train and she slipped on the footboard of the train coach.
The on-duty RPF personnel of RPF Post at Katihar (East) comprising constable Rahul Kumar Maurya and constable R. K. Singh immediately swung into action and saved her life.
In the meantime, ASI Jai Ram of GRP at Katihar, who was also present there, approached the train guard and the train was stopped.
“The lady passenger did not sustain injury and she continued her journey by the same train. Thus, due to alertness of on duty RPF staff, life of a passenger could be saved,” the NF Railway CPRO said.
