A “regressive and misogynist” question in the class 10 English exam conducted by the CBSE has triggered a massive outrage across the nation.
Students, parents and teachers have expressed shock at the content of a comprehension passage of CBSE class 10 exam held on Friday.
The Congress has raised the issue of the “regressive and misogynist” passage in the exam, which blames “indiscipline of children and servants” on “women emancipation and equality”.
Raising the matter in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has demanded immediate withdrawal of objectionable question in CBSE exam.

“I urge the Ministry of Education and CBSE to immediately withdraw this question, issue an apology and conduct a thorough review into this lapse to ensure this is never repeated again,” Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi said in Lok Sabha.
The passage reads: “What people were slow to observe was that the emancipation of the wife destroyed the parents’ authority over the children… In bringing the man down from his pedestal the wife and mother deprived herself, in fact, of the means of discipline.”

Meanwhile, reacting on the matter, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said: “Unbelievable! Are we really teaching children this drivel? Clearly the BJP Government endorses these retrograde views on women, why else would they feature in the CBSE curriculum?”
On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi said: “Typical RSS-BJP ploys to crush the morale and future of the youth.”
