Massive erosion by river Subansiri just few kilometers from the district headquarter of North Lakhimpur has rendered many homeless. The erosion has also posed threat to agricultural land with standing crops.

Unabated erosion by Subansiri on its right side at Ghagar, just 7 kilometers from North Lakhimpur town has already destroyed acres of cropland and displaced hundreds of families over the years.

This time the erosion is widespread from Mohaijan to Pub-Sagaleekota area under North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle and Lakhimpur Gaon Panchayat. The present erosion has displaced five families in Pub-Sagaleekota and damaged the road connecting Na-Kadam and Ghunasuti in that area.

The continuous erosion by the river is now threatening to the embankment of on the right side of the river at Dholghat protecting North Lakhimpur town.

So far the bamboo porcupines, installed by state water resources department and Mishing Autonmous Council, have failed to check erosion by Subansiri in this area.
