Former Tripura Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition, Manik Sarkar said blockades and resistances against him during his visit to different parts of the State were politically motivated and termed it as an attack on democracy.

Addressing media persons at the CPI(M) headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday evening, Sarkar said his purpose of visiting parts of the State was to interact with the common people and know their problems.
During his recent visits to interior areas of the State, Manik Sarkar was halted by BJP activists at Gandacherra in Dhalai district and at Chailengta in Longtraivalley district.
The BJP activists also raised slogans asking the former Chief Minister to go back.
The former Chief Minister was scheduled to visit Kanchanpur on Thursday, but cancelled his trip due to the flood situation.
Sarkar also said such blockades put up against his visits were encroachment and interference in performance of elected public representatives.
He further urged the State Government to work as guardian of all people, irrespective of political colour.
Referring to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s assurance in the Legislative Assembly that they would work in cooperation with everyone including political parties and assured to play constructive role, Sarkar claimed that he along with two other MLAs of his party went to interact with people.
