As all the political parties are gearing up for the ensuing Meghalaya Assembly polls, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) national general secretary and former Union Minister Praful Patel on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for construction of the party office here.

The site of the NCP office building is located close to the newly-constructed office of the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Bivar Road here.

The area is around 3,000 square feet.

It may be mentioned that the area was allotted to the NCP by the State Government during the tenure of former NCP MLA, ECB Bamon in 2008-2009 when he was the Meghalaya Revenue Minister.

The working president of the Meghalaya NCP, Vijay Raj said that the detailed estimate was being worked out for construction of the party’s office building.

According to information, the national general secretary of NCP, Patel has arrived in Shillong on a two-day State visit beginning on Tuesday.

Patel, as per reports, will also meet party leaders and probable party candidates.

Recently, Patel had a meeting with State party leaders in New Delhi where he was reportedly apprised about the current political situation in Meghalaya. It was also reported that after a threadbare discussion, it was decided that if possible, the NCP would put party candidates in all the constituencies in Meghalaya in the ensuing State Assembly polls.

As per media reports, Patel in all likelihood would announce a list of the party candidates for some seats during this visit. He is also likely to visit Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and the headquarters of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
