In a special gesture to acknowledge the unique contributions of all the Governors towards the overall growth of Assam, a photo gallery of all the Governors of Assam since 1947 was inaugurated by Governor of Tamil Nadu and former Governor of Assam Banwarilal Purohit at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Friday.
Purohit expressed his gratitude for having been invited to launch of photo gallery and hailed the efforts of Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi for having conceptualized and set up of the photo gallery which according to him would give the future generation an opportunity to know about the rich legacy of Raj Bhavan, Assam and all the Governors who served in the State.
Assam Governor Prof Mukhi in his brief speech said that he had seen photo gallery of the Governors in all the Raj Bhavans of the other states and therefore he thought that the Raj Bhavan of Assam should also have one.
It may be mentioned that since 1947, 26 Governors had served in Raj Bhavan, Assam and their portraits have been placed in the conference hall.
Former Governor of Meghalaya, Ranjit Shekhar Moosahary; former Governor of Bihar and Tripura, Devananda Konwar; Chief Secretary of Assam Alok Kumar; Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia; Principal Secretary and Former Secretary to Governor of Assam, Ajay Tiwari; Secretary to the Governor of Assam, Sanjib Kumar Gohain Barua; Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof Mridul Hazarika; Vice-Chancellor of KKHOU Prof Hitesh Deka and officers and staff of Raj Bhavan were present in the inaugural function.
