South Sikkim is seeking to boost its tourism through the adventure sports of Paragliding at Temi in the region.

Paragliding introduced on Tuesday has become a new tourist attraction at Temi, a popular hot spot famous for its tea garden, in South Sikkim.

Local legislator and State Minister GM Gurung officially launched the ambitious project at Temi on Tuesday.

Speaking on the launch event, Gurung while stating that paragliding is a forerunner in adventure tourism, further added that paragliding will boost tourism in this area as it is well-known for its scenic beauty.

He also laid emphasis on the fact that in order to generate employment for local youth, they should be encouraged in involve themselves in the tourism sector.

He also exhorted the local residents to publicize Temi in a larger canvas to attract more tourists.

He also that the government has many more development plans in the pipeline for Temi, which he claimed will make the place ‘one of the best tourist spots in the State in near future’.

A paragliding ride at Temi has been priced at Rs 3,000 where the flyers can enjoy the panoramic view of river Teesta, Temi tea garden and the adjacent mountains.

While Gumba dara is the take-off point, Tea Festival tar is designated as the landing point.

The duration of the fly will range from five to 12 minutes depending on the weather condition.

Seven trained local pilots have been pressed into service on rotation basis initially.

On the other hand, mountain biking was also launched from Tuesday.

There are four bikes in the sector and a ride for an hour will cost Rs 200, while a whole day hiring will cost 500.
