Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Sanmilita Gana Sakti (SGS) captured six Zilla Parishad seats out of seven in Dhemaji district making the opposition Congress and AGP bite the dust.

The ruling BJP has captured Muchkhowa, Bordoloni and Sissiborgaon ZPCs under Dhemaji sub-division, while its ally Sanmilita Gana Sakti (SGS) has won in both–Pub Jonai and Simenchapori under Jonai sub-division besides winning in Sissitongani ZPC fall under Dhemaji sub-division. But, the ruling party had lost prestigious Dhemaji ZPC seat to independent contestant Gohin Gogoi.

The winning BJP candidates are Bornali Borgohain (No 2 Muchkhowa), Mohan Gogoi (No 3 Bordoloni) and Babul Chutiya (No 4 Sissiborgaon) and SGS Zilla Parishad members are Banti Bala Pegu (No 5 Sissitongani), Atul Pegu (No 6 Pub-Jonai) and Subharani Basumatary (No 7 Simenchapori) respectively.

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which contested the panchayat poll alone, fielded its party candidates for Dhemaji, Muchkhowa and Bordoloni ZPCs, but could not gain.

Of course, the regional party managed to capture 3 APM, 5 GPP and 33 GPM seats out of the total 65 panchayats in Dhemaji district (including two sub-divisions).

The ruling party has secured conquer in 24 APM, 20 GPP and 176 GPM seats, while Congress has gained 15 APM, 21 GPP, and 213 GPM seats.

As such, as many as 23 APM, 19 GPP and 223 GPM seats have gone to Independents in the district.

The district election department declared 14 GPM (ward members) won uncontested and invalidated a nomination.
