Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has lent a helping hand to keep Guwahati clean by handing over waste handling equipment to Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) as part of its observance of Swachhata Pakhwada from July 1 to July 15 under the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan launched by the Government of India on October 2, 2014.

The equipment and vehicles worth Rs 2.2 crore have been provided by the NRL under one its flagship CSR schemes, ‘Parichannata’.

The keys for the equipment and vehicles were ceremonially handed over to the GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania and GMC Commissioner Monalisa Goswami at the GMC office, Panbazaar on Wednesday.

The equipment included truck mounted garbage compactor, GPS-fitted rickshaw, tricycle carts, mini skid steer loader and 4-wheeler auto tipper.

On behalf of the NRL, the handing over was done by prominent civil society members Digendra Nath  Barua, former chairman, AIDC , former chairman of Guwahati Stock Exchange and president of Guwahati Management Association and Dhiren Barua, former chairman,  GMDA, and founder president of Save Guwahati Build Guwahati.

Also, present on the occasion were MD, NRL, SK Barua, senior CGM (Marketing & BD), NRL, B Ekka, GMC councillors and officials from the NRL and the GMC.

NRL has extended similar support to municipal corporations and town committees in the towns of Nagaon,Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Dergaon, Golaghat , Bokakhat and Kaliabor.

Besides, NRL is also carrying out a host of other significant activities as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada fortnight in areas near its refinery at Numaligarh in Golaghat district and its Marketing Terminal at Siliguri, West Bengal.

The fortnight started with a Swachhata Walkathon held in NRL township in Numaligarh on July 1,  and the Swachhata pledge was administered at all locations of the company.

A health camp was also organized for 133 Safai Sathis of Golaghat Municipal Board along with Health Talk among truck drivers and Safai Sathis at Siliguri Marketing Terminal on July 2 and July 4, 2018 respectively. Cleanliness drives were conducted at nearby Deopahar Archaeological Park and Ponka PHC, Numaligarh on July 3 and 4 respectively.
