The ongoing process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam has reportedly hampered various ongoing construction works in various districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The contractors are in a fix as more than 2000 labourers from Assam who were engaged in construction activities in East Siang have rushed back to their native places in Assam to ensure their names are in the NRC draft.

The labourers are rushing back to their native places to attend hearings with regard to their legacy data and other supporting documents produced for the process of updating the NRC.

According to a report, more than 90 schemes of road development, building construction, PMGSY road, drainage and river bundh, etc, implemented under the PWD, the RWD and the rural development department in East Siang and West Siang districts have been badly affected due to shortage of labourers.

There are serious apprehensions that if the situation continues, construction works will fail to meet the completion date.

The departmental engineers who have been monitoring the progress of the ongoing schemes are insisting on timely completion of the schemes.
