In quick response to a news report published by Northeast Now on Monday, Dima Hasao police reached potable water crisis-hit Semkhor village on Tuesday and as goodwill gesture distributed drinking water among the villagers.
Northeast Now on Tuesday reported that the people of Semkhor village in the Dima Hasao district of Assam are struggling to fetch themselves sufficient drops of water.
At a time when the urban sectors of Assam are undergoing rapid development, the people of the village are dependent on the water that drips from a hill and gathers in pits.

The villagers informed that to fetch water that flows from hill have to commute more than one kilometre everyday to find some clean water.
The Dima Hasao district police despite their busy schedule for the ensuing Lok Sabha distributed 300 litres of drinking water among the people of Semkhor village.
Dima Hasao district will go to second phase of Lok Sabha polls under the Autonomous District parliamentary constituency on April 18.
Sharing a few images of the distribution of drinking water among the people of Semkhor village, the Dima Hasao district police on its Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “In a goodwill gesture & to respond to @NENowNews on water scarcity in Semkhor Village, we sent 300 litres.”

There is no facility of tube wells or any other drinking water facilities provided by the government.
“Availability of water is a major problem for us. We have contacted the government department and requested them to solve our crisis but no one has done anything yet,” said Khurabi, a resident of Semkhor.
The villagers informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has constructed toilets but there is no provision of water in them.
Another woman said, “It is very difficult to search for water. We do not even get water to take bath.”
