The people of the Northeast are hoping for some good news to be presented to the region from the Union Budget 2019.

Reports quoted All Assam Students Union (AASU) advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya as saying that the union is hoping that an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will be set up in Assam to enhance management education in the state.

He also said that the union is hoping for setting up of new research institutes in the state like the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, an institute for research on medicinal plants.

He also hoped that the flood problem of the state will be declared as a national problem.

The secretary added that a research organization should also be set up for solving the flood problem as most of the rivers overflows during the monsoon season which brings much devastation to many parts of the state.

Bhattacharya also hoped that reservation quotas for the people of the state are also announced for C and D category jobs in public sector units of the central government as it will help in solving the unemployment problem of the state.

The Consumers Legal Protection Forum is also hoping that tax is increased on tobacco products in order to discourage consumption of tobacco which is taking a toll on a number of human lives.
