The NF Railway has unloaded 989 freight carrying trains in the month of July 2021 as against 950 in June 2021 with an increase of 4.10% and unloaded them in different goods sheds in its jurisdiction.

Informing this, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in a statement on Saturday said: “Despite Covid19 challenges, the Northeast Frontier Railway has managed to maintain high momentum of goods transportation to keep the economy moving and meet the requirement of essential and other commodities.”

The NF Railway carried 7718 rakes of freight trains from January to July 2021 as against 5846 rakes in the corresponding period of the previous year which is an improvement of 32.0%, NFR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Subhanan Chanda said in the statement.

“During this period, ever highest 1240 nos. inward rakes released in the month of March 2021,” the NF Railway statement said.

Goods like FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, POL, food grains, pulses, fertilizer, cement, stone chips, iron/steel, onion, maize, auto, container and other items have been transported during the month, it said.

During July, a total of 499 rakes of freight-carrying trains were unloaded in Assam out of which 267 were loaded with essential commodities.

A total of 81 rakes in Tripura, 32 rakes in Nagaland, 5 rakes in Manipur, 3 rakes in Arunachal Pradesh and 6 rakes in Mizoram were unloaded during last month, it said.

A total of 209 freight rakes in West Bengal and 154 freight rakes in Bihar were also unloaded during last month within the jurisdiction of NFR to meet the requirement of people of these regions.

A total of 9 more stations have been opened for the handling of goods traffic and 28 goods shed/terminals have been opened for the handling of container traffic in the current financial year so far.

Three more stations have been notified for the handling of parcel traffic.

“In 2021, we have introduced round-the-clock working hours in 11 stations for generating income of workers involved in loading/ unloading and to boost the local economy,” the statement said.

Improved terminal handling facility and improvement in mobility due to enhanced maintenance efforts & continuous monitoring at all levels resulted in the reduction in turnaround time and increased unloading.

The average speed of goods carrying trains in NF Railway also increased by 34.2% from 34.2 Kmph in the corresponding period of last year to 45.9 Kmph during this financial year up to July 2021, the statement further said.
