Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday paid tributes to the architect of Constitution of India, B R Ambedkar on the occasion of the 70th Constitution Day.
He tweeted, “Wishing all a happy #ConstitutionDay. On this day let us commit ourselves and ensure that justice, liberty, equality and fraternity prevails. My deep reverence to #BRAmbedkar ji-the architect of our Indian constitution.”
Most of the political leaders of the Northeast remembered Ambedkar and paid their tributes to him on the occasion of the 70th Constitution Day.
While addressing members of both Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall of Parliament House on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said November 26 is a happy occasion as India celebrates Constitution Day.
Referring to the Constitution as ‘India’s sacred book’, Modi said Indians have always followed the principles laid down in the Constitution.
He also paid tributes to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on its 11th anniversary.
The Constitution Day was first celebrated four years ago in 2015 as a mark of tribute to B R Ambedkar, the first law minister of India who was the chairman of the drafting committee of the Constitution.
India had adopted its Constitution on November 26, 1949.
The Constitution became effective on January 26, 1950.
