Dimapur: Nagaland chief electoral officer Vyasan R said over 16,000 polling personnel would be involved in ensuring the smooth conduct of the parliamentary elections in the state.

Apprising the media about the preparedness for the election to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland in Kohima on Wednesday, Vyasan said all preparatory measures are in place to ensure a free and fair poll in the state.

“The main focus is on the electoral roll, with a special summary revision completed and the final draft published on January 10, except for the 43 Tapi assembly constituency where a by-election is due,” he said.

Vyasan said additions to the electoral roll are ongoing through Form Number 6, with submissions allowed until March and disposal of names permitted until March 27, which is the last date of nomination.

The CEO urged media personnel to encourage voters, especially first-time voters, to cast their votes and ensure maximum voter turnout.

Returning officer Sushil Kumar Patel emphasized the significance of all stakeholders and the media in carrying out the responsibility of the election process.

State police nodal officer Limasunep said full security measures are in place and will be further enforced according to different situations. He added that several companies of central forces have arrived in Nagaland to assist the state police force in various election-related duties, including providing security, area domination, setting up check posts, and searching vehicles to enforce the Model Code of Conduct.

Meanwhile, returning officer Patel today issued notification for the Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland. Patel said nomination papers can be delivered by a candidate or any of his proposer to him or the assistant returning officer Benjamin Longkap at the office chamber of the commissioner, starting from Wednesday March 27 between 11 am to 3 pm.

He said the forms of nomination paper may be obtained from the commissioner’s office. Nomination paper will be taken up for scrutiny on March 28 and the date of withdrawal of candidature is March 30, he added.
