The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted searches in Delhi and Dimapur in Nagaland in connection with alleged terror funding of the NSCN-IM.
The searches were conducted at a time when the Naga issue is heading towards a final settlement.
The NIA through a press statement informed that the searches were conducted at the houses of Alemla Jamir, wife of Pungting Shirmrang alias James Jamir, a member of the steering committee of NSCN (IM) and also a relative of NSCN(IM) general secretary Th. Muivah.
The NIA said Alemla Jamir was allegedly working for the NSCN-IM and was detained at the Domestic Airport T-1, New Delhi with a cash amount of Rs. 72 lakh by the Income Tax officials on December 17, 2019.
Later, Alemla Jamir was arrested by Special Cell, New Delhi on December 17, 2019.

“The case relates to terror funding of NSCN (IM) wherein funds were being taken by the cash courier Alemla Jamir from Delhi to Nagaland on the instructions of Icrak Muivah, wife of Muivah, general secretary of NSCN (IM),” the NIA stated.
The NIA re-registered a case (RC-26/2019/NIA/DLI) on December 20, 2019, on the basis of an FIR (No 228/2019 dated Dec 17, 2019) lodged in the police station of Special Cell (SB), New Delhi under sections 10, 13, 17, 18, 20 & 21 of UAPA.

The NIA revealed: “Searches conducted at the houses of Alemla Jamir led to the recovery of 4 bullet-proof jackets, 28 prohibited ammunitions of 7.62, 9 MM and 12 bore, one Drone along with batteries, 7 bottles of expensive foreign liquor and uniform articles of Naga Army”.

The other recovered items include “pistol holsters, magazine pouches, prohibited wildlife articles, incriminating diaries, photographs, digital devices including Chinese smartphones, video recorder, spycam, Sony hard disk, pen drives, memory cards, recorded audio cassettes, and laptop”.
Certain incriminating documents and insurgency-related literature have also been recovered during the searches, the NIA claimed.
On Monday, the NIA special court granted police custody of Alemla Jamir to NIA for five days in the case.
