DIMAPUR: Two youth drowned at Doyang dam reservoir in Wokha district of Nagaland on Monday (May 27) afternoon.

The two victims, along with three other companions, were en-route to work in the reservoir when their boat capsized due to a sudden strong wind, throwing all five into the water, according to reports on Tuesday (May 28).

While three of them managed to swim to safety, another two drowned in the reservoir.

The two drowned youth have been identified as Elanthung Ngullie (20), and Thungchio Patton (24), both from Old Riphyim village under Wokha district of Nagaland.

Wokha company commandant of home guards and civil defence Echung Konyak said despite the best efforts by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the bodies of the two could not be recovered on Monday (May 27).

The rescue operation resumed on Tuesday (May 28) with the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from Kohima in Nagaland.

However, it was not known whether the bodies could be recovered till the filing of this report.
