Security forces in a joint operation with police apprehended a person with illegal arms at Mhainamtsi in the Peren district of Nagaland.

Confirming the news, a defence statement issued on Thursday said the operation was carried out on March 2, 2021.

The joint operation was launched on the basis of specific inputs, the statement said.

The individual was apprehended and one .22mm rifle with magazine and 36 rounds of .22mm live ammunition were recovered from his possession in the area, the statement said.

The individual along with the recovered items was handed over to Jalukie police.

On February 13, 2021, Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police personnel apprehended three cadres belonging to two different factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN).

During the joint operation, the Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police personnel apprehended two NSCN (IM) cadres from Wokha district while one NSCN (KN) cadre was apprehended from Dimapur.

During the operations, arms and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the NSCN cadres.

The recoveries included three 12 Bore rifles, one 9mm pistol, live ammunition and contraband worth approximately Rs 31 lakh.
