The Core Committee of Civil Society Organisations against shifting of Dimapur deputy commissioner’s office from its present location to Chumukedima will hold a peaceful public rally on October 5.
The rally will commence from City Tower junction to the DC’s office at 9 am if there is no positive response from the Nagaland government to the demand of the organizations till October 4, the media cell of the committee said in a release on Sunday.
The committee, formed at a meeting on October 1 here, appealed to all the concerned tribal unions and non-tribal communities of Dimapur to attend the rally in their traditional attires.
It also urged the Dimapur Urban Chairmen Council Federation to mobilise their respective colony councils and the public to participate in the peaceful rally.

It further urged all the right-thinking citizens of Dimapur to join the movement for the welfare of the denizens of Dimapur.
The Dimapur-based civil society bodies imposed a shutter-down of business establishments in Dimapur on September 30 in protest against the Nagaland government’s decision to shift the present Dimapur deputy commissioner’s office to the new deputy commissioner’s complex at Chumukedima.
The organisations, under the banner of Dimapur District Citizens Forum, submitted an ultimatum to the chief minister demanding that the government cancel its September 7 order for shifting the DC’s office within five days with effect from September 29.
The memorandum said the present DC’s office is located in an urban area and shifting it to the new location would cause tremendous hardship to the citizens of Dimapur as more than 50% population of the district lives under Dimapur Sadar sub-division.
“We are totally against shifting of the DC’s office to any other location. We are merely demanding not to shift the DC’s office and we have no other intention,” a leader of the forum said.
However, the Naga Tribal Union Chumukedima Town and the Medziphema Town Mechü Krotho extended support to the government’s decision to shift the DC’s office.
