The odd-even system of non-essential vehicular movement within Dimapur town and NH-29 till Chumukedima town will be re-imposed from September 2-30 in the interest of public safety during the prevailing Covid19 pandemic.
Dimapur commissioner of police Rothihu Tetseo issued an order in this regard under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, on Tuesday.
During the odd number days – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – only the vehicles with registration numbers ending with the odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be allowed to ply during these days.
On even number days – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – only the vehicles with registration numbers ending with the even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0 will be allowed to ply.
This restriction will not be enforced on Sundays, the order said.
The category under essential services as notified earlier will be exempted.
The government servants on bona fide government duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services/involved in Covid19 related duties will also be exempted from the purview of this restriction on production of relevant documents and valid ID proof.
Two-wheelers will also be exempted from this traffic restriction.
All heavy vehicles, except those engaged in the four-lane construction work with valid permits, will be restricted from plying within the town area and highway area from 9 am to 3 pm.
The order said any violation will be penalized under Section 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988.
