Nagaland on Sunday logged 78 fresh Covid positive cases and 77 recoveries. No death was reported due to the virus during the day, the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

It said Dimapur reported 11 new cases, Kiphire 7, Kohima 40, Longleng 2, Mokokchung 5, Mon 1, Peren 1, Phek 3, Wokha 3 and Zunheboto 5.

Of the 77 recoveries, Dimapur registered 12, Kiphire 2, Kohima 47, Mokokchung 13 and Phek 3.

Meanwhile, the department in its weekly bulletin released on Saturday expressed concern the State recorded the lowest testing rate in the country as many people are still reluctant in naming contacts by a positive case and symptomatic people not coming forward for testing.

Stating that stigma around Covid-19 has been detrimental to the whole process, it said unless the people come forward, the virus will continue to circulate in the community and cause surge or deaths when the right conditions are met.

It will also allow new variants to come up and circulate undetected and also compel the authorities to enforce lockdown, the department stated.

“Knowing your Covid-19 status is extremely critical to monitor your health and symptoms as the timing of medical interventions is the difference between life and death in Covid-19 management. Even in children, more serious complications like MIS-C can be diagnosed and managed more effectively if Covid-19 status of the child is known,” it added.
