Several Konyak groups have expressed resentment over reported presence of a few officials of the 21 Para Special Forces at the site of Oting firing during the visit of the Army inquiry team at the incident site.
Commandos of the 21 Para Special Forces were involved in the December 4 incident of firing at Oting village in Nagaland’s Mon district, where at least 13 innocent civilians lost their lives.
According to reports, Konyak civil society organisations including Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong and Konyak Students’ Union questioned the presence of 21 Para SF personnel during the visit of Army inquiry team to the incident site.
The organisations reportedly termed the presence of the SF officials at the incident site as “insensitive, disappointing and unacceptable”.

The Konyak civil society organisations have also expressed displeasure over the questions that the Army inquiry team asked the witnesses.
“The Konyak CSOs are also not happy with the questions and interrogations made from those witnesses who were present at ground zero on December 4. Its credibility is being questioned upon,” said a statement from the Konyak Union.
Meanwhile, the Konyak Union, an influential Naga organization, has sought “immediate punishment” for the security personnel “involved in the incident of killing of 14 civilians” in Nagaland’s Mon district earlier this month.
“Central government must immediately sanction order for prosecution of those Indian Army and officers involved in the killing of the 14 innocent Konyak youth,” a statement issued by the Union said on Wednesday.

The inquiry team of the Indian Army probing the Oting massacre visited the incident site on Wednesday.
The Indian Army said that the court of inquiry is “progressing expeditiously” and all efforts are being made to conclude it at the earliest.
