Frontline health workers are carrying out various activities to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in different parts of Phek district in Nagaland.

Accredited social health activists (ASHAs), the key personnel in reaching out to a large group of people in the district, have been sensitizing the community people on the deadly virus through house-to-house visit.

They are also disseminating information on the importance of social distancing, hand washing, personal hygiene, cough etiquette through demonstration, said Kutolu Nakro, the district media officer of National Health Mission in Phek.

The mobile medical unit team and school health programme team are also doing house visits in all colonies of Phek town at the block level for screening of people who are under home quarantine.

Meanwhile, the Dimapur-based Foothill Ao Youth Organisation provided relief to the needy people under its areas at Naga United–Niuland and Kuhuboto-Seithekema in view of the nationwide lockdown.

In a press release, the president of the organization, Tuden Jamir, said the organisation distributed the essential commodities to around 400 poor families who have been hit by the continuous lockdown.

He said the list of the beneficiaries was collected from various localities and priority was given to daily wagers without ration card and who have marginal income.

The organisation acknowledged all individuals and organisations who have donated generously and had shown concern towards the poor and the needy in times of crisis.

It appealed to the public to stay safe and obey the government’s guidelines in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
