DIMAPUR: Beginning with 32 learners in 2001 to over 10,000 learners today, offering a variety of programmes, the IGNOU’s Regional Centre in Kohima, Nagaland observed the 37th convocation of IGNOU at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on Tuesday.

Highlighting the varsity’s monumental role in catering to the educational needs of over 3.0 million learners across India and abroad.

Dr A Nshoga, director of higher education Nagaland, who was the guest of the honour, commended IGNOU’s efforts in extending higher education learning to marginalized and socio-economically disadvantaged groups, differently-abled persons, and even inmates in correctional facilities nationwide.

He also lauded IGNOU’s contributions to various sectors, including teaching, research, training, community development, extension activities and professional development.

Highlighting the IGNOU’s adoption of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) well before the announcement of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Nshoga said the varsity provides flexibility to learners in choosing their courses and completing them at their own pace, even after intervals.

He also commended IGNOU’s curriculum for its skill-based orientation and conducive learning environment.

Nshoga congratulated to all the successful learners of IGNOU’s Regional Centre, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in achieving academic milestones.

He called the graduating learners the torchbearers of tomorrow and exhorted them to utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired for the greater good.

Giving an insight into the achievements of the IGNOU’s Kohima Regional Centre, Dr Mayonmi Shimray, regional director and in-charge IGNOU Kohima, said out of the 989 eligible students from the Kohima Regional Centre who were conferred degrees during the convocation, there were 723 master’s degree holders, 122 graduates and 88 diploma holders while 47 students were awarded certificates.
